Critical infrastructure

Funding Overview — Build Communities Strong Fund. A proposed wildfire protection and infrastructure resilience partnership.

01The Opportunity

BCSF Direct Delivery Stream

The core question here is how can we protect our communities from wildfire risk?

We know that exterior sprinkler systems are effective at protecting infrastructure. We can deliver a comprehensive system across Lil’wat assets to protect critical infrastructure and make the community more resilient.

Build Communities Strong Fund

$6 Billion

Allocated toward climate adaptation, large building retrofits, and community infrastructure resilience — with a legally mandated minimum 10% carve-out reserved exclusively for Indigenous-led projects and investments.

Capacity Note

Prodigy Wildfire Solutions absorbs the administrative burden — handling technical designs, workflow management, and required Class C costing configurations, so no additional staff time is required from Lil’wat to prepare and submit the grant.

02Meeting Update

Discussion with Klay — July 9, 2026

Prodigy met with Klay to walk through the wildfire risk facing Lil’wat Business Group assets and the proposed solution: Prodigy’s autonomous exterior sprinkler protection systems. Key outcomes of that conversation:

  • 01The wildfire risk and the sprinkler system solution were explained and understood.
  • 02Confirmed that funding streams are available to cover the project, with strong alignment between BCSF priorities and this type of infrastructure hardening.
  • 03The applicable funding stream closes for applications on August 12, 2026, with delivery required in 2026. Prodigy is ready to meet this deadline.
  • 04Klay is willing to spearhead this on behalf of the Business Group, with Rosemary needed for input.
  • 05Agreed that a phased approach makes sense — starting with a defined asset scope rather than a nation-wide rollout — so the group can evaluate effectiveness before considering wider deployment.
03Partnership Model

Asset Scope — Start With Four

Private corporations can co-apply on Indigenous-led BCSF streams if acting as the direct technical execution and implementation partner. Under this joint venture structure, Lil’wat Business Group stands as the primary applicant, while Prodigy serves as the dedicated delivery partner executing physical property hardening.

Gas Station

The Hitching Post

Grocery Store

03

Grocery Store

Core community retail asset

Office

04

Office

Business Group administrative facility

These assets share common ownership under the Business Group, making them a natural and administratively simple starting scope for a first submission. Broader Nation assets (school, health centre, fire hall, etc.) were discussed as a potential future phase once this initial scope demonstrates the approach.
